For me personally, I found the entire reading a bit ironic. Morals are subjective, not only on a societal level but also a personal level. Plato’s discussions in the Gorgias with Socrates were expressing his belief, I believe, things are not always as black and white as we try to make them. Polus, Callicles and Gorgias initially had very basic views. Pleasure is always good, being superior is the best, justice doesn’t matter as long as a person is fulfilled. Socrates, pushed the issues, and piece by piece made them realize it is difficult to generalize moral elements.
