Another character which was a motivational part in the novel was Sofia is the type of self-confident woman unlike Celie.She is an aggressive independent woman who helps Celie and marries Harpo. She won’t give up on anything or even from a fight and if anybody picks on her, she beats them twice as hard as they give it to her. According to Alice Walker, “The hardship Sofia endures serves as a reminder of the costs of resistance and the difficulties of combating cultural and institutional racism” (Walker). By the quote we can say this was an excellent way of saying that enduring the difficulties and tough life like Celie was going through makes the person even stronger to maintain all the hardships in life and to keep up saying no to people’s order. Celie admires her quality. She is the sort of person who is willing be honest and saying everything that she goes through. Celie never do exactly like Sofia is doing, but Sofia assists to be a visible reminder that Celie doesn’t have to take everything as serious as it is, she can learn to stand up and fight for her own rights and speak out loud in order to keep away the hardship that she went through all her childhood long.
