People always say that softball and baseball are the same thing just one is played by girls and the other by boys. Softball and baseball may look like they are the same but they are really not. It doesn’t matter which gender plays baseball or softball but it’s usually that girls play softball and boys play baseball. The equipment used, the rules and how the field is, and the uniforms are all different.
The equipment used in softball is different than the equipment used in baseball. In softball, the players use metal bats. In baseball, they use wood bats. The helmets in softball have a face mask on the front of them. Baseball has no face mask on the helmets and sometimes only covers the one ear. A softball is bigger than a baseball. A softball measures between 11.88-12.13 inches in circumference and a baseball measures between 9.00-9.25 inches in circumference. The bases in softball are around sixty feet apart and the bases in baseball are around ninety feet apart. With the outfield being wider/longer in softball than it is in baseball, it makes it harder to hit a softball. In softball, the players try to play up to seven innings. In baseball, they try to play up to nine innings. The pitcher is softball throws the ball underhanded and in baseball, they throw it overhand. Pitchers in softball pitch at a mound that is surface level with the batter, while pitchers in baseball pitch at an elevated mound. Players in baseball can leave the base at any time to make a steal or take a lead. The players in softball have to wait until after the pitch was thrown and then they can try to steal a base.
