Softball in the Olympics For female and male athletes alike, softball is a fun, enjoyable sport that can be played at almost any age and any skill level. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) admitted the popular sport in 1996, but eliminated it after the 2008 Olympics (Softball, n.p.). The IOC viewed the sport as too American for the Olympic stage (Associated Press, n.p.). Softball should be an Olympic sport again because it meets all requirements, is popular in most of the world, and does not have any other International competitions. The IOC requires sports to have administration by an international non-governmental organization, to file a petition, and to “be widely practiced by men in at least 75 countries and on four continents, and
