Softball and baseball are often considered to be the same sport due to the similarity between their names. However, that conclusion is far from the truth as each sport has unique rules, playing fields, and methods of playing the game. This is due to the specialization of each sport for a specific gender; softball is played by females and baseball is played by males. Regardless of the names, both sports share a similar goal which is to win, learn, and become the best player possible through offensive and defensive experiences.
Both softball and baseball have similarities due to the shared basics of the games as well as the goal. The main example of this is the basic rules of the game; teams will rotate between fielding and batting with every three outs; if a hitter has a count of three strikes, they are out; the team with the most runs at the end of the game wins. Baseball and softball games also only allow nine players on the field while fielding or playing defense and one batter from the opposing team at home plate playing offense. The balls used in softball have a circumference that ranges from ten to twelve inches depending on the age group of the players. Baseballs have a standard circumference of nine inches. Additionally, baseballs are white with red stitching that holds the cover of the ball together. Softballs are more eye-catching more due to their bright yellow green color that is complemented with red stitching. The difference between the two balls is mostly due to the average traits of males and females.
