Every since I was a little girl, I have liked playing softball. I started at the age of 9, now I'm 12 and love the sport. I hope to be playing it for a long time. When I'm older, I hope to be like Jennie, and love softball just as much as I do now. Jennie has taught me to follow my dreams, and accomplish what I believe I can do.
Baseball is considered by many to be America’s favorite pastime. Softball in many aspects is similar to baseball but in reality it is harder to play. This can be shown in all aspects of the game from hitting to pitching to fielding to catching. One major aspect where the difference is obvious is hitting. It has been scientifically proven that a 95 mph fastball generates 2411 lbs of force as it crosses the plate and a softball thrown at 65mph generates even more according to youtube.com.
When the ball was thrown I swung and then the worst thing happened: “Strike 1.” No!!! I have never missed before! The second ball was thrown and then before I swing, I hear,
I think softball is one of the hardest sports to learn and play. Softball is a really complicated sport you have all the positions and rules so lets go over the positions. You have Pitcher, catcher,1st base,2nd base,3rd base, short stop, left fielder, Center fielder and right fielder. All the positions are very important.
At first you might not think you’re good but you can get better. That was my reasoning on why you should play softball. Along with some facts about the sport. A lot of girls play the sport and I hope that you will too.
Softball involves less running than sports like soccer and football and there isn’t as much conditioning involved in softball as there could be. Laura Berg, a center fielder for the U.S team, states that “softball deserves to be in the Olympics because it combines both pace and power. The games are fast and feature athletic women who can be stars on both offense and defense” (qtd. in Hendricks). Softball may now involve as much running, or conditioning as many other sports, but it involves just as much dedication and talent to succeed, and that’s why it deserves to be in the Olympics.
The reason why i’m these positions is because I have a good arm to throw across the field and I can run to home base speedy quick. Once I get to the bases my teammates throw the ball to me so I can get the other team out so we can go hit. The reason I play first base is because I can catch a ball like that but not the ones that get thrown to the ground obviously. Where I play
Through my 7 years of playing competitive softball, I have gained a greater understanding of myself and the people in my life. The experiences I have endured over time helped me grow not only as an athlete, but as a person. Softball has helped me create some of the most important relationships and memories; the hard work and dedication I have put into this sport has made me the person I am today. It’s crazy to think a sport as simple as softball could have such a major impact on my personal growth.
Being involved in sports teaches vital life lessons that will promote you to overcome challenges you endure in everyday life. The passion and leadership required in the sport of softball reflect the qualities to be successful in my education. My life-long experiences in softball have helped me develop into the person I am today in pursuing my academic career. Through my background of being highly committed to the game, taking on leadership roles and balancing academics with athletics it has prepared me for college. Softball is very meaningful to me and is one of my main commitments.
There are many outcomes to getting hit while batting or catching. If you have a pitcher that likes to throw fast but is very inaccurate then it is more than likely that he will hit someone. When you feel like you want to take a hit you should always turn your back lower the bat and take it. The reason you lower the bat is because if the ball hits the bat it is fair and counts as a strike. In the field you can’t really control it if it takes a bad hop it might hit you so just be prepared for anything in the field.
I play softball because of the love I have for the game, and because of the feeling that takes my breath away every time I step onto the field. The softball field at Glendale Community College is now my new home for the next two years. Hearing your name being called and lining up alongside the first base line with your teammates before the game makes you feel worthy and excited to play such an amazing sport. As we gather in a tight circle just before we rush to our positions,
People think sports are just sports, but in reality to athletes it’s an escape from life, it’s our second family, and most important we feel like we belong there. Sports make you feel like your apart of something bigger than a team. Softball has been my second family and I have made so many amazing friendships that might last for the rest of life and even if they don’t, I will never forget all my friends or the memories that I have playing ball with
Then next thing I know is there is two people in front of me before I am up to bat. So I get in my bag to get my batting gloves, helmet, and everything else I needed to go hit. I stand towards the front of the dugout till it is my turn to take some practice swings in the on-deck circle. The batter that was up got walked and now it was my time to do my pre-hit routine in the batters box. I took three swings, then stretch, then talked to people in the crowd to not sike myself out before
Softball is the best sport ever. It provides more than sport skills, it gives life skills. The reasons are it gives amazing teamwork experience, time management skills, and also promotes a healthy lifestyle. These are all abilities that can be used later on in life. Some people might think that teamwork is provided by all sports.
Over the years I’ve gotten stronger, faster, and overall better at softball. Four years into it and I have some great and some painful stories. I’ve learned many things about softball, but one that has stuck out to me and that also applies to life is that it can be fun.
