In this song, the singer describes a man’s love for his girlfriend as well as the difficulties and pain inherent to loving another. The song describes the pressures that humans face, and how their struggles against difficulties end in failure. Despite this, it is the efforts made against these failures that eventually add up to an individual’s worth (Mahan, 2005). The significance of this song to the album is that it attempts to deify love, and it does this by examining how man tries his best at love, just the same way in which he tries his best at being good and religious. Even though man will always lose in his efforts at devotion and pure love, he will eventually be redeemed through his constant
Like in Jarrell’s poem, the presence of a woman symbolizes livelihood and tenderness that can bring out the humanity in a man who had almost lost it. Her beauty enchants him, possibly as
Previously, I believe it could be said that women, while used as a symbol of sex, were never completely allowed to own and and proudly flaunt their sexuality. Another musical, Annie Get Your Gun, also pushed the limits of gender. Annie is a
Our lives are the big result of small choices. It is through these choices that our lives are forged and we become who and what we are. In Tia Sillers poem/song, she talks about why people should never lose the will to live, and enjoy life. She also mentions that they should always live life to the fullest, and always continue to “dance”. The way my life has developed is by being willing to try new things as well go to different places and experience new adventures outside of my horizon.
Here, John Cooper is explaining how the song was influenced by the couple’s story of abortion. However, this can be perceived as a pro-life argument in the disguise of a song. With Cooper giving his say of how this song hopes to impact his audience, we will continue to go in deeper

This is especially visible when Dolly Parton broke through the (at the time) male-dominated country music industry (Library of Congress). Dolly Parton gives female perspectives and voices in her songs which was not common in country music then. Country music written by a female who was willing to speak out was impactful and influential to many people. One example of this is Dolly’s first top-forty hit Dumb Blonde (Country Music Hall of Fame). Dumb Blonde is about a woman thriving after being left by a man.
She is describing how men want things done their way and women who do not cater to their needs get punished. The men never take responsibilities for their actions towards their women. This entire poem signifies how women bend over backward for their husband and get no rewards or praises in the end. Sor Juana is considered a feminist because she is in favor of women being well educated and having the right to pursue their dreams. Sor Juana turned down several suitors who approached her with marriage proposals.
The first stanza is to assure her that, however deep his love for her, his need for honor is deeper . The speaker batters himself in order to possibly disperse his lover’s anguish by crying out “Tell me no,
In the year 1960, the Civil Rights Movement activity was at its highest, and it was also a pivotal concern to jazz musicians. One of the many jazz musicians that was strongly involved in the movement for integration during the African-American protest movement is Max Roach. Roach was a teacher, activist, bandleader, composer, but more importantly, one of the most influential musicians in jazz. The growing political events of 1960 were the reason that led him to respond and established many of the issues debated during the Civil Rights Movement through a jazz album released on Candid Records in 1960. The album, We Insist!, is composed of five selections concerning the Emancipation Proclamation and the increasing African Independence movements
Because it has no context behind it, it could imply that demanding his girl to get him a beer is normal, therefore he does not even have to ask. The lyrics suggest that having a big truck and being demanding of his girlfriend is manly. Therefore, these lyrics encourage these kinds of behaviours and label them as manly, which then causes men to act the same way. Another example of song lyrics that reinforce toxic masculinity is “I’m Still A Guy” by Brad Paisley. Paisley sings, “But when you say a back rub means only a back rub.
The song Beds are Burning by Midnight oil is a political song about giving native Australian lands back to the the Pintupi. The Pintupi were one of the very last people to come from the desert. These people began voluntarily moving from the Gibson Desert to settlements around the 1930ss. Many more were forcibly moved during the 1950's and 1960's to the Papunya settlement after they did not leave in the 1930’s. In 1981 they left to return to their own country, and established the Kintore community.
Hip-hop is an influential form of music that displays an artist’s honest and revealing story that many of the general public can relate to. One of the many songs that I can relate to is “Love Yourz” written by J Cole. The song talks about how Cole reflects on the most important things in life such as love and happiness. He realizes that the money and fame didn’t bring him the happiness he desired. To gain true happiness, he needed to appreciate himself and those that love him.
