Only one artist has had 20 hits across six consecutive decades. This artist is the one and only Dolly Parton. Dolly Parton was born in Sevier County, Tennessee in 1946. Dolly grew up in a one-room cabin in the mountains with 11 other siblings. Her family also lived in relative poverty for most of her childhood. This did not stop her as she still proceeded to pursue her dreams in music and become the most paid and famous country music star. Therefore, Dolly Parton deserves to be honored with this stamp because of her contributions to charity, and the music industry, and also her ability to influence others.

This is especially visible when Dolly Parton broke through the (at the time) male-dominated country music industry (Library of Congress). Dolly Parton gives female perspectives and voices in her songs which was not common in country music then. Country music written by a female who was willing to speak out was impactful and influential to many people. One example of this is Dolly’s first top-forty hit Dumb Blonde (Country Music Hall of Fame). Dumb Blonde is about a woman thriving after being left by a man. Dolly Parton’s song “Dumb Blonde” attacked the made-up female stereotypes put into place. Dolly Parton keeps defining the odds which only gives her a better reputation. Another of Dolly's songs is her hit song “9 to 5” which became a rally for equal pay in 1980 (Dixon). Dolly is different in this way. Her songs reflect a theme.
