“170 worldwide awards, 7 Grammy awards, and in 2007 became only the third country artist in history to win the Grammy Award for Best New Artist” (michael). “ Carrie Underwood officially started her singing career in 2004 when she decided to try out for “American Idol”, not only did she get past the auditions, she went on to be the season 4 “American Idol” winner” (Carrie Underwood). Carrie Underwood is now one of the best known country singers, and has become extremely successful since winning “American Idol”, and now she is using her fortunes to give back to others who are less fortunate. One of the charities she supports is the Red Cross to help assist in disaster relief. Back in 2013 a big tornado struck Oklahoma leaving 13,000 people without homes. “ Underwood said. “With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornados. Monday’s twister that hit Moore, Okla., killed 24 people, destroyed an estimated 13,000 homes and caused an estimated $2 billion in damage” (Carrie Underwood). The funds from Carrie’s donation will be used to pay for the disaster relief in Oklahoma and other states. Carrie wanted to assist people affected by this storm, she donated 1 million dollars to The Red Cross to help pay for the damage that was done. Carrie has partnered with Habitat for Humanity to help families in need find homes. “Habitat for Humanity and Carrie have teamed up to help families into homes. Carrie has donated an amazing VIP Experience to be auctioned off by Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity, to help raise funds for families in need.”(Carrie Underwood). The money that comes from this auction will go to the families who don’t have homes, and will help them build a new life.
