Entry 1 Chapter 22 talks about the good neighbor policy that was created by President Roosevelt. He had plans to improve diplomacy between the United States and its Latin neighbors by being a “good neighbor”. He felt the United States could offer Military intervention in those countries. He also tried to improve Soviet Relations by exchanging ambassadors. The American Indians had the opportunity to participate in the war efforts as “code talkers”.
Song of the Hummingbird by Graciela Limon is about the fall of the Aztecs at the hands of Cortes and Spanish conquerors from the point of view most people never learn about--the Aztecs. The story takes place in 1582, when an indigenous woman, Huitzitzilin, also known as “Hummingbird”, recounts her story about the coming of Cortes and the Spanish to a young Spanish monk, Father Benita Lara. Father Benita Lara realizes that Huitzitzilin’s views on the events don’t aline with what was taught in Spain and he becomes intrigued by her version of what happened. Song of the Hummingbird emphasises several important topics: clash of cultures, strength, betrayal and acceptance, and the truth behind history. I enjoyed reading this book because it allows
James Frey, Leonard, and Lilly are the main characters of this book. James is the narrator, in which he told the entirely book through his points of view. He explains his feelings, thoughts, and reactions upon his addiction. He was a privileged child that began drinking and smoking pot at age ten. Now, that he is older, he is addicted to drugs and alcohol, which led him into a rehab clinic.

Faith shares her spiritual experience that pertains to Mrs. Trent while working in her aunt’s hair salon. A few months after Mrs. Trent’s death, Faith receives a card addressed from Mrs. Trent. The inscription is the verse from Song of Songs 8:6, “Place me like a seal over your hart, like a seal on your arm for love is as strong as death…” (151). Eisner expresses to the reader the note written by Mrs. Trent was to her daughter Faith just before she disappeared.
In the detailed study written by Ayau he discusses that cooperation is the key to everyone becoming wealthy. Ayau argues that cooperation is the balance to the economy versus the psychological satisfaction one tends to feel when they trade something. In today’s society we are use to giving something in order to receive something whether it is through making a payment or trade. Ayau provides an in depth explanation of how the process of trading works in chapter two by breaking down the gains in a mental exercise. Even though we do not use a mental exercise to consider gains in trading, we do however initiate a cost-benefit analysis.
With such beauty and grace the lady confesses her love and desire for him instantly becoming love struck "that burned and set fire to his heart" (line 119). "If it pleased you, if you such joy might be mine that you would love me, there is nothing you might command, within my power, that I would not do, whether foolish or wise. I shall obey your command; for you, I shall abandon everyone. I want never to leave you. That is what I most desire" (lines 121-130).
With love, we can be accepted into a community, or accept ourselves. During a religious procedure where everyone gets to touch the black Mary’s heart, Lily states, “June kept playing while each of them came, until there was only Rosaleen and me left. May nodded to June to keep on with the music,” (Kidd 111). The Black Mary itself symbolizes maternal figures, representing strength and guidance. The Daughters of Mary put their belief and trust in Black Mary to guide them, shown by them touching her heart.

This was very significant in setting the tone of the speech in terms of talking about the girls. The word choice King used was very important as well. He used the word “beautiful” to describe them and also referred to them as “God’s” children. In the Christian Church God makes no mistakes, he is a being that is perfect so by referring to these girls as God’s, they are thought of in a higher light. Also, the word beautiful or beauty is used many times in Bible when referring to God’s work and his actions.
Poetry uses magical power of language to connect with the mysterious world. Native American literature was used to communicate ideas and beliefs throughout the tribes and the people. A lot of poems were used to tell adventures of humans, animals, and supernatural beings; as well as recount ancient times, beliefs, values, and info passed on in the Native American culture and literature. To demonstrate this idea, the following poems “Song of the Sky Loom”,” I Went to Kill/ I Have Killed the Deer”, and “Calendar Fragments” use the major literary element, symbolism, to communicate the theme of nature, cyclical worldview, and use of ancestry.
Szymborska systematically undoes the damage inflicted upon Lot’s wife by undermining the smug certainty of moralization in response to the human story. In the first line of the poem we are introduced to the idea that curiosity was reason for her disobedience. Her story is then completely unraveled into a flurry of potential alternatives juxtaposing the simple and tragic moral tale “they” reduced it to in order to communicate that disobedience equates to destruction. In the line “A hamster on its hind paws tottered on the edge. It was then we both glanced back.”
