Behavior are often passed down from parent to child and then to their child based on actions they have seen. Often children would mimic after their parent’s actions in the belief of it being normal or amazing. The next generation would also learn from their parents and would either achieve greater than their parents or regularly grow alongside with their peers. Some might even continue their parent’s culture as a pattern of some sort. A pattern that can repetitively continue that can be created into a broader view. Sonia Sotomayor was raised by this pattern, to grow up into a hard-working individual who was raised with a love of knowledge. Her grandmother was a big impact on her childhood, with her father unable to take care of her and her mother often working late. She claims that she “was determined to grow up to be just like her, to age with the same ungraying, exuberant grace” (16). Her grandmother was her guardian, her caretaker, and her role model in her youth. Without a guardian or a parental figure, it would be difficult to pass down a legacy and grow a young child without any inspiration or dream. Furthermore, it would be difficult for a child to carry on a legacy from a later age, as they have become more conscious of their own individual aspiration. As her grandmother, she influenced Sonia from an early age and influencing her as a grown up today. Secondly, after her father’s death, her mother soon became more active in her youth to be there for her. In result, there were a few moments in time where her mother influenced her positively in education and as a person she is today. For fact, her mother “has a talent for not taking sides. . .
