Exam Essay “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” That quote was said by Martin Luther King Jr. as he lead a powerful movement that paved the path in guaranteeing African Americans the freedom they deserved. This hard fought battle took a lot of time and dedication, it took lives and people willing to die for what they believed in. Giving a group of people civil and political rights is not easy and it takes many steps. There are seven total steps that most people have to go through in order to achieve political equality. This is a crucial step when groups are trying to obtain the rights they want. The executive branch has the power to create and enforce laws. If a group wants things to change, this is the higher order that they would want to please. The executive branch can take a look at the occuring issues and find a way to solve them. The only problem with this is that it could take a while to get an issue resolved, issues don’t get fixed overnight. This processes can take many years, even decades. People fighting for their rights should not get discouraged as this is a very common occurrence. For example, people have been fighting for guns to be banned in the United States for many years. This issue is extremely difficult to resolve because the opposing sides are both very strong. Many people want guns banned because of the rising numbers of mass shootings, but on the other hand, Americans feel like they deserve the rights to own guns. This issue is in the executive branches hands and it’s up to them and how they want to deal with the issues at hand. Now that we have discussed the three important steps in gaining political equality starting with a group defining itself, the group challenge society, and the executive branch breaking the ice, you should have a better understanding about what minority groups have to go through in order to gain equality.
