You watch your competition and fix their mistakes in your head, you smile and tell them they did wonderful. You stand there taking deep breaths, and go over the same words you’ve said a hundred times. You wait for your name which will come soon and when it does you take one last deep breath, smile, and take that step on to the stage never moving your eyes from the judges.
The drum major’s voice rings out, sharp and clear in the tense silence. We hear her call us to set, and we freeze. The band is across the field, standing a block, every member leaning forward, forming the same angle towards the ground. We are lined up from the 35 yard line to the 45, lying on the wet grass as if we are asleep. We are perfectly still, then suddenly we rise, kicking our legs in unison.
About! I got my color guard flag July 2nd 2017. My flag has a white pole and a blue silk known as the flag part. All of the guard members has the same flag as I do. In our shows we will use different flags that matches the theme of the show.

During the civil war, a band with a person or few holding flags would march out on the battlefields. The band did this so that the soldiers stayed marching together correctly and to keep the spirits high.

To a lot of people, mostly boys’ cheerleading isn’t considered a sport. But did you know that cheerleading was originally meant for boys? I bet you didn’t, the first cheerleader’s name was Johnny Campbell; he decided that one day that he wanted to lead chants at the University of Minnesota’s football game. He then created a whole team that would help him lead the crowd at different University of Minnesota sports games. Then, on November 2, 1898, Johnny Campbell was recognized to be the world’s first official cheerleader.

Color guard is extremely special and important to me. Many ask, “what is color guard?” “What do you guys even do?” When an audience watches a performance, what most people see is a bunch of people jumping and dancing across a football field, in strange costumes with flags and weapons in their hands, to marching band music. It may seem a bit ridiculous and whimsical to someone that has never been to a marching band competition.
For some people it's just fun. But for me It's a lifestyle. People ask what is it? It's the sport rodeo. For those who don't known what rodeo is, rodeo is an exhibition or contest in which cowboys show their skill at riding broncs, roping calves and other activities.
If I’m here on TV in front of millions of american adults, it means I have something really important to tell you. Did you ever say, implicitly or explicitly, that the lyrics of African-American songs are inappropriate, especially those of rappers such as N.W.A? Statistics say that 90 percent of our population have, and most of the time it was explicitly in front of black people. Now, did you ask yourself why is the language of African-Americans inappropriate? Statistics say that 70 percent of the american population doesn’t know the reason and thinks that because we are born black, we should be bad.
Whether it be through Girl Scouts, Interact EC, or SMYLE, I find that service opportunities are never a chore but something I look forward to doing. Wherever my path may go after Daniel Hand, I can know for certain that I will continue to be a part of leading and serving the communities I am a part of.
