The novel ‘Night’ written by Elie Wiesel and the film ‘Schindlers List’ directed by Steven Spielberg, are both based in World War 2 and more specifically the holocaust and the attempted cleanse of the Jewish race. These two texts both heavily demonstrate the horrors and brutalities that the Jewish people had faced during the holocaust. The two depictions of these events have many similarities although one being word and the other being film, however they differ in perspective, Schindlers List showing an outside look at the events where Night is a first person experience. The Learning of The Holocaust The book Night by, Wiesel represented the holocaust. The book was a great way of expressing facts but it was hard for me to really see it. I think that the movie, The Boy In The Striped Pajamas explained the holocaust much more efficiently, and had a better understanding of emotion and gave the watcher a better visual for better comprehension.
The Holocaust was a horrible event in history that will scar humanity forever. With the events of the Holocaust being experienced by millions there are many different perspectives of said events. One such perspective is presented in Night, a memoir written by Elie Wiesel about his experiences as a young Jewish boy during the Holocaust. Another perspective is presented in Schindler’s List, a film directed by Steven Spielberg (based on the novel Schindler’s Ark by Thomas Keneally) about Oskar Schindler, a gentile who saves over one thousand Jewish lives during the Holocaust. Both pieces show heart wrenching stories of the abuse of a group of people in different ways, each using different mediums to convey their points.
The Holocaust was a devastating event that had outreaching effects on many groups of people and many countries. Although most of this devastation happened to the Jewish Race. There are many books, movies, memoirs, and academic journals regarding the Holocaust, portraying how it affected different people and their stories. One memoir that will be discussed is Night written by Elie Wiesel about his life during the Holocaust. Also a movie by the name of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas will be discussed.

The Holocaust took place during the years 1933 to 1945. It was an attempt to remove all of the Jews, and other smaller groups such as homosexuals and Jehovah's Witnesses, which lived in the country of Germany. The events that took place during the holocaust were lead by a German man named Adolf Hitler. Schindler's List is a film about the Holocaust from a man named Oskar Schindler's perspective as a leader of a concentration camp. The film displays the five stages of the Holocaust.
Throughout Night, dehumanization consistently took place as the tyrant Nazis oppressed the Jewish citizens. The Nazis targeted the Jews' humanity, and slowly dissolved their feeling of being human. The feeling of dehumanization was very common between the jews. They were constantly being treated as in they were animals. Books provide a way to tell stories, present information, and like Night, record historical events. Memoirs regarding the Holocaust are published today allowing people to understand such an event through the experience of another living being. However live action films provide visuals creating a stronger understanding. Despite the fact that Night enables readers to experience the Holocaust through the words of Elie Wiesel, “Inside Auschwitz”, a documentary, brings Night to life by displaying the remains of Auschwitz.
The Holocaust is a time in history when millions of people were persecuted in Europe by being sent to live in ghettos and eventually being deported to concentration camps where they were systematically annihilated until the Allied forces liberated the remaining survivors. The Jews were moved to the ghettos, because Hitler pushed the Jews to move to the east, then they concore move of the east and move them more to the east. Then “there was no more room for them to move to the east, so they built ghettos for them to live” (Byers 32). But his true intentions were to “separate the Jewish people from manly Germans and also other races” (Allen 37).

Without the fear of being afraid of the camp at first arrival or the fear of the Jew not eating because they know they will be killed, there wouldn’t be much hope. This proves the point on why fear overpowers people and make them not do what they would normally due since there life is at risk. This truly shows the bad of the holocaust. The Holocaust was a horrific tragedy which started in January of 1933 and ended in May of 1945, the Holocaust was the mass murder of millions of people. The word was derived from the Greek word that meant Sacrifice to the Gods (Steele 7), also called the Shoan which is the Hebrew word for catastrophe (Steele 7). So many countries took place in this 12-year genocide, including, “Germany, Italy, Japan, Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria, which were also known as the Axis Powers” (Steele 34). But, although there were all those countries they were all part of one larger group called the Nazis, were the ones who were killing all the different denominations of people. (Bachrach 58).
Expository Report “We must do something, we can’t let them kill us like that, like cattle in the slaughterhouse, we must revolt”. These are the words from many men surrounding Elie Wiesel as he entered Auschwitz, calling out for rebellious toward the Germans harsh conditions. Of course they had no idea what they were getting themselves into, many thought that there was nothing wrong until boarding the cattle train that would send them off to their final resting place. Life during the holocaust was torturous to say the least, so much so that some 6,000,000 lives were taken during this time in Jewish descent alone. People of the Jewish descent did not have it easy; they either were forced out of their homes into concentration camps, or they would hide out only to be found and killed of they remained in their settlements.
The horrendous acts committed during World War II still haunt people today. A lot of people did not realize the extent of the brutality that took place in concentration camps across the country until this film was released. The entire film is filled with 195 minutes of pure gut ranching brutal acts committed by Nazi armed men. The entire film is filled with true acts of violence showing the entire process of when a Jewish member of the community
