Spot pigs originated in Putnam and Hendricks counties of Indiana, during the early 1900 's. In order to get this breed Poland China and Gloucestershire old spot pigs were crossed. Spot pigs have certain colors, which are white with defined black spots. In order to register a spot pig it cannot have blue or slate grey spotting and curly hair. A characteristic of this breed is its bulky droopy ears. On average they are medium to large size pig. These breeds usually are gentle which make them a great choice for beginning pig farmers.
