English assessment transcript Hello everyone, I am Summah Corea and this is my multimodal. The purpose of the multimodal assessment is to show how the director of the screenlife film “Searching” successfully manipulates the convention of film to appeal to the modern, contemporary audience. I will show how they do this by analysing the David confronting Peter scene. I will discuss the film devices used to manipulate and expand the medium of the film. In the other part of the multimodal, I will reconstruct the 2001 film “Spy Kids” to use aspects of technology to improve the movie for more modern audiences. David discovered some suspicious text messages exchanged between Margot and Peter on Margot's laptop. When Peter won’t tell David anything, David attacks Peter and they get into a scuffle, David gets Peter into a headlock until he finally reveals that he and Margot had been meeting up to smoke weed, and he knew nothing about her disappearance. During this scene, the audience is given multiple points of view of this interaction through different security cameras set up throughout the kitchen and living room. As you can see in this clip we are shown high and wide camera angles to create a mise-en scene and are even brought into the scene by the men bumping the camera causing it to fall to give hyperrealism. “Spy Kids” is a spy action kids film. Technology they had in the movie was quite simple tech like a TV, computer and fax machine. For the technology not seen in the movie but was available to them in 2001 were the iPod, Windows XP, cellphones and flip phones were used as the first smartphone wasn’t released for 6 more years in 2007, and game consoles like the Xbox and Playstation. The original film convection used was that they had unrealistic gadgets such as spy glasses that could be used to follow a tracker, scan peoples faces to identify them and other things. They also had satellite watches that could be used to talk to other people with the watches, they had robots like the thumb thumbs and the spy kids. The gadgets were made by the OSS (Organization of Super Spies) and bring an element of futuristic and playful aspect to the film which helps reach a wider
