While gathering the army at Gien, Charles and Joan sent out letters requesting representatives from various cities to attend the coronation. They advanced boldly to Reims and on July 17, 1429, Charles was crowned King and officially became King Charles VII(7th). During her teenage years, Joan started to hear voices, which she claimed to be the voices of Saint Michael, Saint Catherine, and Saint Margaret. Later on, those voices spoke to her telling her that the dauphin had to be crowned and that the English had to be expelled from France. She had many obstacles in the way but in the end they were convinced. The French believed her, because the court believed that only a miracle could save the country.

Lanval’s story follows the basic elements of the monomyth, or Hero’s Journey, when read closely. He begins his journey in a vaguely unsatisfying ordinary world where he is unappreciated and where “he could see nothing that pleased him” (52). Leaving that world, he enters into the world of Queen Semiramis, wherein he is not only beloved of the Queen but assured that “he would never again want anything / he would receive as he desired” (135-36). When Lanval is challenged by his Lady “if this love were known / you would never see me again”, he accepts his quest readily (148-49).
Women of the Modern world have been viewed in many different lights; women of Early Modern Europe were not viewed in a most positive perspective; however, women across Europe were treated differently. The texts Return of Martin Guerre by Natalie Zemon Davis and Princesse de Clèves by Mme de Lafayette each give insight to the lives of women in the Early Modern Period. Lafayette has a focus on the nobility, following a noble woman trying to navigate love. While Davis tells the story of a woman who is left by a husband, who eventually returns, twice. Each text gives us an interpretation of the life women lived in this period of time; they have differences, as the nobles and commoners did, but share many similarities.
