Daniel of St. Thomas Jenifer, one of the five delegates from Maryland at the Continental Convention was born in 1723 at a retirement estate in Charles County, Maryland. Jenifer 's education was widely unknown, however, nearing adulthood he was granted ownership of a large estate near Annapolis, called Stepney. He held many post up the ladder of the government, mainly as justices for higher and higher courts. Later he became president of Maryland 's council of safety and then the first president of Maryland 's state senate.
David McCullough, in his Wellesley High School Commencement Address, utilizes imagery to convey to his audience that each individual possesses the same common potential. While addressing the graduating class of 2012, McCullough makes a point to emphasize how unexceptional the students are. By bringing to light the fact that the students are all wearing the same “ceremonial costume…shapeless, uniform, one-size-fits-all” (McCullough 1), he illustrates the conformity of the crowd. By depicting the cap and gown, McCullough demonstrates that each student at the ceremony are at the same level.
Here at the Saratoga Springs chapter of NHS, we place tremendous value in the efforts of individuals to not only make a difference that they wish to see but also inspire others to do the same. With this in mind, it is my pleasure to introduce our guest speaker, Mr. Dave Brown. A graduate of Le Moyne University, Mr. Brown has become one of the most respected and highly regarded members of our Saratoga Springs Community. Whether teaching about his favorite President, James K. Polk, or dauntlessly leading his girls volleyball team into a sectional match, I have never failed to see Mr. Brown give less than one hundred percent. In my experience in his United States History course, I saw Mr. Brown’s ability to connect with each of his students.
Regan’s use of ethos, logos, pathos was to make an emotional connection to the families of the Challenger Seven, and to the citizens of the United States. President Regan establishes his credibility and trustworthiness by his credibility as the President of the United States and saying that the Seven were seen as heroes. Regan says, “but they, The Challenger Seven, were aware of the dangers, but overcame them and did their jobs” (Regan 2). Regan wanted the people of the US to know how brave these The Challenger Seven really were. Regan than follows with this quote, “we mourn seven heroes: Michael Smith, Dick Scobee, Judith Resnik, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Gregory Jarvis, and Christa McAuliffe” (Regan 2).
Patrick Henry’s Speech may have tipped the scales and started the revolutionary war. The British came into America and had troops stationed all over. The british acted like they were trying to help the British at first but it became clear of their real intentions. Fortunately not all the colonists believed that the british were for them especially after they started taxing the colonist, just to show that the had the power to. The reason that this speech is so important and remembered to this day is because Patrick Henry knows how to persuade people.
In her “Commencement Speech at Mount Holyoke College”, Anna Quindlen employs personal anecdotes and her academic background to effectively build her credibility. Quindlen explains how her strive for perfection in her younger years only served to add needless parasitic pressure. She claims that “being perfect day after day, year after year, became like always carrying a backpack filled with bricks on my back” (Quindlen 1). Drawing from her personal experiences, Quindlen challenges her audience to “give up the backpack”. By building a strong connection through shared hardship, Quindlen appears as an authority on defying conformity to discover one’s own individuality.
In the speech of the Virginia convention the writer Patrick Henry known as the orator of Liberty. He wrote in all ways in this story, ethos, pathos, and logos. He wrote on going to war with Britain, because his fellow country people were eventually going to be taken over if they did not stand up and go to war with Britain. They would eventually become slaves for Britain, so Patrick Henry was trying to convince the people to stand up with their country to beat Britain. My story will be written on the ways Patrick Henry used ethos, pathos, and logos to persuade the people to go to war.
Patrick Henry gave his famous, "Give me liberty or give me death!" speech in 1775 at the Second Virginia Convention. Patrick Henry talks about many different topics in his speech. He talks about liberty, false hope, and fighting back against Britain. I think he is one of the most influential founding fathers because of this famous speech. The Revolutionary War may not have happened if it wasn't for Patrick Henry.
Michael McCarter, Todd Stevenson and an unknown Pi Tau brother stepped forward, the latter holding a video camera. Stevenson spoke first, his voice pleasant and inviting. “Welcome to the final day of Hell Week, gentlemen. You are one task away from becoming members of the most elite fraternity on campus. Congratulations on making it this far.”
Though we shouldn 't forget the main issue, these boys are a menace to the peaceful vibe overall. Yes that may seem harsh to say, but there are ways to celebrated MLK day. Coco Brown, Pug 's mom, described bike riding as a wau to keep the delinquents off streets even if it 's just for a day. Still, dirt bikes and atv 's do not belong on public roads. Especially if there are other civilians driving on the same road .
Australia Day is one of the most unique national day’s in the world throughout history, celebrating the day of when our ancestors first arrived on the borders of Australia, in 1788. Rather than unite people as one whole though, the spirited outcome of this event isn’t what as anticipated by everyone and has divided the Australian society for good. And so it should be held at an alternative date, where Australian citizens feel worthy of their identity and not cheated by it. However, the celebration shouldn’t be adapted to like that of other commemorations like ANZAC day. Essentially, this day will always be a tragic memory for the indigenous and be viewed as the invasion of their homeland.
St. Patrick’s Day is an Irish cultural/religious celebration, and because of this you just never know what to expect. Here is what may happen to you this St. Patrick’s Day, Saturday the 17th. Aries (March 21-April 19) You’ll go to an amusement park.
The cultures presented in the lecture: Incas, Mayan and Aztec all had fascinating features, some alike and some different. All three cultures depend heavily on agriculture so they all invented different farming techniques that worked best for their geographic locations. The Inca located at the center of modern Peru where the empire hugged the slopes of the mountains in South America came up with terrace farming to maximize their land usage. Located on the Yucatan Peninsula, the Mayan were lucky enough to have flatter land where they can just burn down forests to plant crops. Out of the three cultures, I find the Aztec the most fascinating because they built floating gardens instead of having the garden on flat land.
Good morning, I welcome you all here today to the 2015 Science National Honor Society Induction Ceremony. I am honored to been asked to speak and to celebrate this wonderful occasion. I would like to congratulate to the students for being honored today for your achievements in leadership, community service, scholarship, character and your enthusiasm on science which are shown through hardwork and dedication that each of you has displayed. I would also like to congratulate to the parents and families for showing unconditional support, motivation, encouragement and love on these remarkable young people which is why they are here today and continue this way in order to lead them to the path of success. Because of his outstanding ability to motivate us, the quality of our music and marching drills rapidly improved. As a result, we were awarded superior ratings and best in class awards during our Fall competition season. My service as band president has taught me the value of a good work ethic, the strength to go the extra mile, commitment, and selflessness. I will carry these lessons with me to college next year and eventually to my chosen career as a Graphic Designer. In an interview with a local news station about our band’s fundraising drive to purchase new uniforms, I said, “It’s a new era for the Ardmore Tiger Marching Band.”
