In scene 3 of “A streetcar named desire” Stanley exercises power by using his power abusively and aggressively. While playing a game of poker Stanley gets upset that Stella and Blanche are playing music way too loud and just talking really loud. He tells the girls to stop talking loud and to be quiet. Stanley bursts out, “You hens cut out that conversation in there!”(pg. 54), but it's also Stella’s house and she can do whatever she wants. She says, “This is my house and I'll talk as much as I want to!”(pg. 54). Stanley then is quiet for a few moments. Right now Stanley is showing us that he likes things to be his way, and when it doesnt go his way he gets aggressive. The narrator says, “Stanley jumps up and, crossing to the radio, turns it off” (pg. 55). This was just the first time he turned off the radio. A little later Stella ends up turning the radio back on and agin everyone is enjoying it but not Stanley, little prince Stanley has to get what he wants. Stanley then gets super irritated and throws the radio out of the window. The narrator says, “Stanley stalks fiercely through the portieres into the bedroom. He crosses to the small white radio and snatches it off the table. With a shouted oath, he tosses the instrument out the window” (pg. 62). Stella gets very upset with him and yells at him. This is when Stanley becomes very abusive and hits his own wife. Everyone tried to warn Stella that he was charging after her but she was too late. Blanche says, “Stella, watch out, he's–” (pg. 62), but she gets interrupted by the sound of Stella’s crying and sounds of a blow. The narrator says, “She backs out of sight. He advances and disappears. There is the sound of a blow, Stella cries out. Blanche screams and runs into the kitchen. The men rush forward and there is grapplng and cursing. Something is overturned with a crash” (pg. 63).
