Starry Night Urban Sprawl was created by the American artist Ron English in 2003. This composition is an urban take on the famous Starry Night composed by Vincent Van Gogh. Ron English is greatly acknowledged by his pop culture and urban imagery. Throughout this detailed composition English has created a built-up densely populated city creating visual satisfaction to viewers. The comical brands create this satisfaction as it creates a vibrant and very recognisable village. English uncovers Van Gogh’s farm scene in the background and the foreground by making it his own creating pop culture and a modern fantasy world. English withdraws the boring and full village that is presented in the middle ground as uses brands such as Mickey Mouse, McDonalds and the famous King Kong. This brand imagery is a use of the “modern world” that we live in today. The modern features that were used in the making of Starry Night Urban Sprawl created a scene to relate to the everyday activities and brands. The duration of the artwork interprets a distortion of the original and creates a modern day humour rather then a dull and gloomy composition that is shown throughout the original Starry Night.
