Statement Of Purpose: Becoming The Service And Philanthropy Committee
I’m interested in joining the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. I would love to join this organization, because I love what they stand for and what they have done for the world so far. They have done things as opening school in Haiti and Africa, Delta house in Africa, and many other things. One of the reason I want to join this prestigious organization is because they do stuff to better the country that I was born in, and everything that’s helping Haiti becomes a better country is something I have to at least try to be a part of. It will also help me get started with my plan on opening a youth center in Haiti.
I can contribute my knowledge of social justice and ability to be a community servant to this organization. My long-term life goal is to become a hospital owner in multiple underrepresented areas and foreign countries. Being a community servant, one can build character while helping open doors or provide opportunities for those who are less fortunate. I’ve read the many articles of the large groups of Alpha men graduating from Meharry Medical College, that have had such a huge impact on the surrounding communities by giving a helping hand when needed. It’s the small things that count and makes me eager to join the previous groups of male leaders striving to achieve their goals, which defy all odds against
Of my many volunteer and paid extra-curricular activities, the most important to me is the National Art Honor Society, which extends artistic activities to my community. We organize two school events: the Festival of Trees and the Talent Competition. The Festival of Trees is an event when every school club can choose to donate and decorate a tree that we set up. All of the money raised goes to an organization of our choice. For the last 4 years, we have donated to Street Grace, which benefits the fight against human trafficking, especially in the Metro Atlanta area.
Participating in social services for orphanages and homes for elders have been experiences that build my character. By helping others I help myself be a better person, and get new prespectives of life. Being part of the National Honor Society comes with its benefits and responsibilities. I am prepared to take both and fulfill them as best as I can. I will hopefully have the opportunity to be a part of your community of outstanding people.
In National Honor Society, I engage in volunteer projects for community service hours which showcase the four pillars of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. I also hold the Secretary position in SADD club. My duties include making announcements, informing members of upcoming meetings, and helping other officers with their duties.
To me, service, leadership, and character mean sacrificing your time in order to benefit others,expecting nothing in return. Often leaders are the ones who perform the unwanted tasks with no recognition, wanting only to help others by their actions, Leaders are often driven by their considerate character - exemplary moral qualities that they exhibit, such as patience and persistence, often inspire others around them to become leaders, too. I would like to be in National Honors Society to challenge myself to become more involved in the community. There are innumerable opportunities to benefit the Lansing area and the school, which I look forward to take part in. Additionally, I would like to be in National Honors Society to join a group in

What I see as the function of the National Honor Society is to encourage young adults like myself to participate more within their school and community. It allows students the ability to give and serve other people that have done so for them. This group will give many students an eye opening experience on volunteering for fellow citizens. If I were to be selected into the National Honor Society, I would contribute to the group by sharing ideas and giving useful feedback to the other students in the group. I would also provide personal experiences of certain voluntary services that I have completed, if needed.
Every week I spend time at the Morristown Medical Center as a volunteer, where I am able to help keep things functioning in the hospital at the highest speed possible and hopefully brighten a few patients’ days. Also, I’ve enjoyed helping refereeing youth basketball games for the past two seasons and being able to talk with the kids. It is a great opportunity to give back to a program which gave me so much in the five years I played in it when I was younger. Furthermore, I am excited for even more opportunities to have an impact on my community which being a part of National Honor Society would aid in.

Espousing these pillars, I find giving back to the community very important, which I show through my service with my church, ELO tutoring, and NHS activities including the OGES Holiday Shoppe and FHS tours.
