What makes certain clothing respectable? By the way they are sewn or by the people that wear them, people have deemed some clothing to be more “respectable” than others. At Seton Hall Prep, students are required to wear a blazer, button down shirt, tie, and pants with a belt. There are most likely other stories like this, but this one is different because Christian is a prisoner of war who goes to live with the Volperts. An Enemy Among Them takes place in Reading, Pennsylvania in December of 1776. It starts off on the British ship, Mermaid, but progresses into Reading. “Scouts Honor”, by Avi is a realistic short story about three kids that go camping all by themselves in the country. In the beginning, the three nine year old kids worried that they weren't tough enough,so they joined boy scouts. They all wanted to get to the next level in boy scouts, so they went camping all by themselves. Soon they discover that they didn't bring the right things to go camping with, they brought things like canned beans, with no can opener. A dull hatchet, and a whole mattress.

The story started in a courtroom where a black man named Jefferson was being prosecuted for assisting in a robbery in which a white man was killed. Jefferson was judged by white men and was referred to as a hog throughout the court session.

In The Lesson Before Dying, there are many instances of racial discrimination and inequality, but there are also several accounts of lessons being taught discreetly. Several main lessons that are taught in this novel is that humans cannot be dehumanized by other people from injustice, accepting your fate, and that change is imperative. For centuries, people have always judged and made their assumptions about a person just by their actions and outlooks on certain subjects. If people degrade each other's opinions, there is no way that the world can truly move on to making new inventions and expanding our knowledge of unknown entities because the public is too busy defending their opinions. It is imperative that people change their ways of making other people feel bad, especially when some are only judging by race or sexuality.
The National Honors Society places a strong emphasis on the cornerstone traits of character, leadership, and service within the school and outside of school. I have met, and exceeded these qualities by being honest, assisting others, and participating in school activities. My character has always been an important aspect within my life. This is because character is comprised of honesty, selflessness, and compassion. No matter what the situation is, it has always been important to me to be honest with not just those around me, but with myself.
A Lesson Before Dying a play by Romulus Linney based on the novel by Ernest J. Gaines was performed at the Clarence Brown Theatre, March, 2016, and showcased a powerful performance of a heart breaking story that left the audience in tears. The production portrayed the themes of racism, injustice and redemption in death through powerful acting, staging, and lighting. With a play like this it was very clear what the playwright’s objectives were and he obviously wanted to put issues that continue to greatly affect our society in a platform for the audience to see and be aware how these issues can have an impact in a person’s life and their love ones. Amongst the plethora of extracurricular activities I am active in, The Key club, In regards to the community, has affected me by the greatest margin. Since my sophomore year, Key Club (A community service organization) has involved me in multiple projects ranging from making chew toys for the local animal shelter, to providing goodie bags for the soldiers at Fort Hood. However, it was not until my senior year that I realized how much a small coalition of students affected the community at large. This became apparent after receiving multiple personally written letters from our fire department and churches. Also, I found that football ties the local community together.
Christianity, one of the world 's major religions, revolves around love and the importance of loving others. In The Bible mentions to Christians, "Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" (Leviticus 19:18). Love is of utmost importance in Christianity. In this story, a boyfriend, who does not manifest love and is a hypocrite and a sinner, to his loving girlfriend who is carrying their future baby. The boyfriend, changes and transforms his views of himself throughout the short story.
Every week I spend time at the Morristown Medical Center as a volunteer, where I am able to help keep things functioning in the hospital at the highest speed possible and hopefully brighten a few patients’ days. Also, I’ve enjoyed helping refereeing youth basketball games for the past two seasons and being able to talk with the kids. It is a great opportunity to give back to a program which gave me so much in the five years I played in it when I was younger. Furthermore, I am excited for even more opportunities to have an impact on my community which being a part of National Honor Society would aid in.

The first reason why I should be in National Junior Honor Society is because of my leadership skills. The first example of my leadership skills are applied to my youth group in the Cecilton Parish. I am the treasurer and help with the Ideas for fundraising. We, as a group held a spaghetti dinner for the church and I managed the money and the setting. Pursuing this further, I actively show leadership in school.
Helping the people around me is so crucial because not only does it exemplify Honor Society’s value of service, but also character and leadership. Twice a year our club picks up trash on a mile stretch of highway. We wake up early
I will make sure to do my part by leading by example, serving my community and school, staying true to myself, and performing in school to the best of my ability. It would be an honor to be a part of such an extraordinary program in which I can better myself and my community. I am so thankful to the many teachers who have considered me as a candidate for the National Honor Society. As I aspire to become a member of this organization, I will make it my duty to be an active member in my community and will maintain my leadership, service, character, and scholarship
