As someone passionate about making a positive impact in the world, problem-solving, and working in the medical field, I am excited to re-apply for admission to the Master of Social Work program at West Texas A&M University (WTAMU). After a two year break, returning to this program will provide me with the education I need to receive my masters in social work. Ultimately, I plan to earn my clinical license in social work to continue my career in a medical setting with more clinical capabilities. In the past, the master's program at West Texas A&M has helped me gain the skills and experience necessary to become an effective social worker and advocate for those in need. These values include service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence (National Association of Social Workers [NASW], 2023, preamble). I strongly believe that each of these values are essential to the philosophy and practice of social work. As previously mentioned, my motivation for entering the social work profession stems from my desire to make a positive impact in the world. My goal as a geriatric social worker is to ensure the client is living the highest quality life they are capable of with their mental and physical potentials. A career as a geriatric social worker would include components such as dignity and worth, being well diverse in local community resources, understanding family dynamics, and systems that can impact both clients and medical facilities. I plan to continue my career with Creative Solutions in Healthcare. As their area social work trainer and PRN social worker, I would use my master’s degree in Social Work to accept a full-time position with the company.
