Hello, I 'm Makinna Bentz, a senior at Washington County High School where I have gone to school since my last year in preschool. Before Washington, I lived in North Platte Nebraska where I was born and went to preschool for two years. I have a family of 5 with a younger brother whose a sophomore and sister whose in 3rd grade. We live outside of Washington on a farm where we raise cattle and horses. My dad is a Veterinarian and my mom is a technician at the clinic.
While attending St Joseph’s College I have taken leadership roles within my community and within the classroom. In my community, I have helped organize two teams to participate in the Breast Cancer Awareness walk and
I can contribute my knowledge of social justice and ability to be a community servant to this organization. My long-term life goal is to become a hospital owner in multiple underrepresented areas and foreign countries. Being a community servant, one can build character while helping open doors or provide opportunities for those who are less fortunate. I’ve read the many articles of the large groups of Alpha men graduating from Meharry Medical College, that have had such a huge impact on the surrounding communities by giving a helping hand when needed. Through the National Student Leadership Conference, I will be marching out of my comfort zone and learning qualities that will aid me in becoming a better leader. In my school there are numerous leadership opportunities, from being class president, to being a house captain, to planning a school wide event.
Many posses the commitment to the qualities of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, but how one uses them shows the core of their disposition. For each of these qualities, there are many traits, useful in a leader, and not. Since it is only my second year as a student at Carlsbad High School, there has not been much time of my being distracted from my school work as I try to be as diligent of a student as possible. However, from time to time, I take a break and do things for the community instead. The students that make up the National Honor Society are extremely dedicated in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, and I would be very grateful to be a part of the standards.
Unfortunately, I have not held any offices in the organizations above yet but I sure intend to. However, I have been a leader and mentor in many of the organizations. The National Society of Leadership and Success has taught me how to be an effective leader throughout my time here at Columbus State University. The Competitive Premedical Studies Program has allowed me to mentor those incoming students into the program and give helpful advice as how to make the most of the program.
To me, service, leadership, and character mean sacrificing your time in order to benefit others,expecting nothing in return. Often leaders are the ones who perform the unwanted tasks with no recognition, wanting only to help others by their actions, Leaders are often driven by their considerate character - exemplary moral qualities that they exhibit, such as patience and persistence, often inspire others around them to become leaders, too. I would like to be in National Honors Society to challenge myself to become more involved in the community. I feel as though I could benefit National Honor Society through my leadership qualities, willingness to dedicate my time to the community, positive character, and perseverance to succeed in academics. While I may not hold many leadership positions at this time, I am able to step up and take charge in any necessary situations. Additionally, one can see that it is important that I take time out of my day to serve others as I devote two hours each weekend to volunteer. My academic standing is also of importance to me, believing that consistency in school is a crucial factor in achieving success. I challenge myself by choosing to take any honors or AP classes available and striving to put forth utmost effort in each class.
The National Honor Society is an opportunity for many students, who are well educated with dreams and leaderships skills, to upgrade themselves. The sole purpose of this organization is to endeavor leaders in different societies to help out their community. It will help colleges to notify the leaders when looking at students’ resumes, for those students in this organization will be the few who are well-developed leaders in their school. Since this will be the first time to be given the opportunity to contribute to this organization, I may not know everything about the requirements in which I need to manage.
As a candidate for membership in the National Honor Society, I believe that I possess the qualities needed to be inducted. I am interested in joining the organization because I am confident in my leadership qualities and want to help the community. I have achieved the Honor Roll every quarter since it was available in Elementary. In 6th grade, I earned the Westchester County Clerk’s Distinguished Student Award from Timothy C. Idoni. plus, on my last year at A.B. Davis Middle School, I have merited the Triple C award from the Westchester Attorney General.
The National Honor Society (NHS) is a notoriously prestigious organization, and it is possibly one of the greatest honors a student can earn in their high school career. Becoming a member of the NHS can open many doors for students, including leadership experience and opportunities for college scholarships. Admission for this program is based on certain ideals. The criteria for admission-scholarship, service, character, and leadership-are four areas in which, at least I believe, I excel. Even when I was a young child, I was very concerned with school.
I greatly appreciate my nomination to be considered for induction into the National Honors Society. I would be honored to join such an organization as it would not only provide opportunities for myself, but also encourages and emphasizes the importance of service to community. Before and during high school, I have been active in serving the community in a consistent way. Other activities I do also influence and shape the way in which I approach service and leadership tasks.
I also believe that my time as a student ambassador on the LSUA campus and as a nursing student in clinical has allow me to gain the experience that I need in the leadership role. These are all qualities that I hope to bring with me if I am granted membership.
From a young age, I learned to be very independent, and this independence has led me to gain leadership skills that have proven valuable in school.
