Consciousness is the state of being awake and aware of one's surroundings, but there are different types of consciousness. There is meditation, hypnosis, substance use, and, sleep and dreaming and they are altered states of consciousness. It is crazy to me that when you meditate you are still conscious but you are in a different state, a more relaxed state. Like in normal consciousness we can zone out the things that aren’t important at certain times. When reading over what preconscious memories were I thought about how different our world would be if we noticed every little thing around us like and thought about what life would be like if we didn’t have preconscious memories. Like how I was not thinking about a camel until you put it in the text. I also found it crazy that hypnosis that occur during school shows and so on are not real. Would that mean that people are totally faking it up on stage or does their mind just get altered because they think they should be hypnotized? I also think it is crazy that when they did real hypnosis to find out sexual abuse things it just created false images in people’s minds, so what they were saying during hypnosis wasn’t true. Your state of consciousness can change from substance use and its crazy that drugs and alcohol can alter what you see and feel so much. Like how by using drugs or alcohol the changes derive from slowed or sped up central nervous system activity and cause changes in physiological and psychological awareness. I never knew that getting addicted to something can either take a long time or happen pretty quickly. Also I could never imagine being physiological dependent to a substance so that my body needed it to act normal and for normal brain function. I cannot imagine how hard it would be to quit a substance you depended on for normal brain
