When looking through various mediums of presentations, I came across this 54min movie about stem cells. This movie contained information on the two sides of stem cell research, different types of stem cell research, where stem cells come from, how stem cell research can help people, people’s opinions on stem cell research and different types of stem cell.
The purpose of this report is to inform people about stem cells and the scientific evidence surrounding stem cell research, especially in Norway where the film originates from.
This film flows very well and isn’t slow pace, it is very factual and gets to the point. It also provides a range of information from two different points of view. The film also provides information from various countries …show more content…

She states : “There are over 200 different types of cell in the human body, all with different jobs to do. The stem cells role is to replace other cells when they die as a result of disease, injury or just general wear and tear. For example a skin stem cell will replace dead skin cells. Our body also has stem cells for tissue like muscle and blood. They can be found in places like the skin or bone marrow. The embryos used are surplus IVF embryos from donors. The extraction of stem cells causes the destruction of the embryo”- Science friction documentary on stem cell research. This information is really important to the public, the public need to know where the embryonic stem cells are sourced to make an accurate decision on using treatment that one day might be available.
One catholic couple was interviewed and woman was interviewed who had both had IVF:
The first interviewed person was a woman known as” Lisa O’ Callaghan. Who gave birth to a little girl called Sarah after multiple attempts with the help of IVF treatment. This is what was said during the interview.
“Lisa: I have two embryos, Blastosists frozen in the clinic and they have been frozen for two years”
Liz: What are the main things that come into your head when you think about those two frozen embryos?
Lisa: Well I do think if I don’t get to use them, if I never get to the stage where I’m going to decide ok, I’m going to go on and I’m going to have another baby. Will they be left there forever? Will I be an old woman an ill still have these two frozen embryos there in the clinic, emh whats going to happen to them?”
