Stephen Crane, a realism writer who wrote about his knowledge and own experiences with real life; He's shows the readers to open their eyes to see the light of life and how it has some darkness. Life is not fair to all and some people have it harder than others. Life can be very challenging and only you are in control of your choices; but there will always be consequences. Those consequences can destroy you; if you are not surrounded around the right people in life. In the beginning of Maggie A Girl Of The Streets, it opens up to an internal conflict. Jimmie, Maggie’s younger brother, is in a fight with other younger kids from another part of New York (Crane,pg1-3). Jimmie is seen as a hot head that uses his fist to get out of problems. Jimmie would have been beat to death if it wasn’t for the character Pete and his father who broke up the whole fight and dragged him home. Stephen Crane purpose is to show the reader how harsh Jimmie’s life is. He wants the reader to sympathize for Jimmie. He wanted people to know about poorism and the hard lives people live; after all, life isn't all that it's cracked up to be. He showed that women are just objects to some men and what they need to tolerate before they can’t anymore. He showed that we need to appreciate the time we have with our families and that we should forgive all for what they’ve done. The past is the past; it’s what’s in the future that gives us the hope to go on in life and to try to make it better. We can learn from our mistakes; but it’s better to learn from others such as Maggies. Stephen Crane was a true realistic author and the stories he wrote are surreal to how tough life can be in general. This book showed me to appreciate life and keep close to my love
