What is racism? Racism is making discrimination or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one 's own race superior. Racism is when someone judges you based on what race you are, or what skin color. Also that people think that that just because you are a certain race you can do something or be good at something even though you are not. People treat someone else differently because of their race and treats the same race as their equal. Most people believe racism started in america in the early 1800’s when slavery started. Racism is the whole reason why the civil war started because the north and the south kept arguing if they should have slaves or not. I asked several questions about the topic. I learned many things about this survey. I let middle school teenagers take it. All thirty-seven students had different answers. Throughout this survey I found out that students issued racism. About fifteen educated learners said yes and the other twenty-two said no. Twenty individuals use racial slurs when joking around and the other sixteen students selected “no, it 's rude”. I also asked another question about how to handle a situation like this. Some of the students had different opinions to stop it. Some kids said to tell a legal guardian or tell them to stop. Some teens said “Yes in school” and “outside of school’. Another question was that if they ever seen someone got treated differently because of the color of there skin. Sixty-seven percent, twenty-five, of students chose yes and thirty-two percent said no. The last question I asked was if they think stereotypes are true or not. (Stereotypes are generalizations about a group of people whereby we attribute a defined set of characteristics to this group). After this survey I learned, not only adults experience racism but teenagers too. After learning and looking at the response, I was surprised. This change how I look at racism now.
After all the research we found. We can conclude that racism is all around America and even in small towns like Porterville and Tulare County. That 's why we have came up with a solution that is educating teens and kids about racism and how we are all equal even though we are different race and color.
