In today's society certain aspects of life are challenged that would not have been a couple of years ago. It is this generation that are challenging these aspects of life. Sarah J. Maas wrote a book,“A Court of Thorns and Roses,” where in the book the same aspects are challenged. All of Sarah J. Maas’s books do this, they challenge the “normal”. The aspects of life that are challenged are gender roles, stereotypes, and what is being taught to children.
First, gender roles are being challenged. In “A Court of Thorns and Roses” the main character is a teenage girl named Feyre. Her family consists of her dad and two sisters, Feyre being the middle child (Maas). Feyre is the only reason her family stays afloat, she is the breadwinner. In order …show more content…

Stereotyping is something everyone does even if they do not want to, people just have to learn to get past it. People learn from a young age to stereotype, such as people who wear glasses are nerds and jocks and cheerleaders are dumb. This is not true at all, it is just what people immediately think. In the book stereotypes are objected. Such as a teenage girl being able to make enough for a family to survive (Maas). Also, Feyre goes through these trials to save the man that she loves. She is not expected to come out of these trials alive. The other characters in the book stereotyped her by expecting her to not live. In the end Feyre goes through these trials and comes out victorious and alive. Feyre objected the stereotype everyone put on her. The same goes for Bayete Ross in the video “Breaking Down Stereotypes Using Art and Media.” When Bayete and his friends were hanging out with another friend who bought a house and the neighborhood watch came over. The neighborhood watch stereotyped them for being black, they thought that they were dangerous (Ross). Then shortly after the cops came and checked on the situation. Even though one of the gentlemen lived in the area, they were still
