Morrison’s Recitatif is a thought-provoking story about an inter-racial childhood as two girls partially grow up in an institution without their mothers. Roberta’s mother was sick and Twyla’s mother wanted to dance all night, or so the girls believed. The two girls were able to bond through their life experiences and different predicaments and become friends. As they run into each other various times in adulthood, the story creates an interesting narrative of the views of society as a whole and individual racism. The way this story is set up causes the reader to not have a clear understanding as to how to interpret and perceive the overall narrative.
In the documentary Brown is the New Green, Latinos are the main and only focus. The film is about how George Lopez normalizes the image of Latinos in the United States through entertainment. George Lopez is a major representative factor in the Latino community. The connection between George Lopez and the Latino audience creates a cultural identity. This is the first true representation of Latinos in the United States.

J.M. is an 82-year-old women, and lives alone. She lives in an urban area of Watertown, NY. Within, Watertown she lives in a senior living building for ages 55 and older. This building is made up of 42 apartments. The majority of the apartments are single units but there is one, two bedroom apartment.
Race, ethnicity, and gender roles are classified as socially constructed identities rather than biological categories. These are well shown in the "Citizen 13360" by Miné Okubo and "Sultana's Dream" by Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain. In “Citizen 13360,” Japanese Americans were viewed as threats simply based on their appearance and as a result, subjected them to internment camps. There is no such thing as a pure race except when there has been no racial migration. Today's race is more determined by borders, continents, and even by appearance, which are all a social construct in our society.
Annotated Bibliography Introduction: Examine different kinds of advertisements and the problem at hand with how they perpetuate stereotypes, such as; gender, race, and religion. Thesis: The problem in society today is in the industry of social media. In efforts to attract the eye of the general population, advertising companies create billboards, commercials, flyers and other ads with stereotypes that are accepted in today’s society. Because of the nations’ cultural expectation for all different types of people, advertisement businesses follow and portray exactly what and how each specific gender, race, or religion should be.
Many stereotypes of African culture have emerged due to western literature and media and first hand accounts of explorers. Things Fall Apart offers a view into the truth and reality of African cultures, which are often misconceptualized by these stereotypes. Acebe shows how African society functions well without assistance from foreign travelers. In Things Fall Apart, Achebe counters the imperialist stereotypes of Africa by keeping certain words in the Igbo language, as opposed to translating them into English, to fight back against the spreading western culture and to embrace their own way of life. The constant bombardment of negative associations of minorities affects how the public views those within these groups. Unconsciously people are affected by these images even those within the Black community. A study in 2006 showed that Blacks that watched a lot of television tended to have more distrust for their neighbors, be less likely to join groups and have a negative attitude toward their neighbors than their, White counter parts viewing the same things. (Beaudoin & Thorson, 2006). These types of problems are only furthering the divide between racial groups.
National Security within the United States has been a concern since the 1930s and is only heightened during times of war. Naturally, due to the conflicts with particular countries, World War II and the Cold War created racial stereotypes. However, there are still misconceptions and stereotypes about these minorities. A Pakistani man may have amazing stories and content to show but his audience may not be able to see through his accent.

Stereotyping is a way of categorizing certain groups of people or types of individuals with regards to gender, race, culture, religion etc. Stereotyping arises from prior assumptions due to influences by the media, history and personal experience. The statement: “To gain an understanding of the world we need to make use of stereotypes,” appears that stereotyping is required in order to really understand the world, and knowledge issues can be drawn from this statement: Does stereotyping prevent us from knowing someone truly and how are stereotypes created in the first place? One way to examine and discuss the knowledge issues is to look at different areas of knowledge, which in our case will be History and Human Science.
