Believe it or not our society seems to classify people according to abilities, religion, customs, countries, and even likes, and dislikes. I personally think that each person is unique and being Chinese, Japanese, American, Mexican, etc. does not make you smarter or better one than another. In this case, Gladwell on Chapter 8 of Outliers highlights the intelligence and dedication of the Chinese population. I believe stereotypes are formed through parents and teachers. Parents are our first teachers and whatever comes from home, it will stick with us forever.
There have been many recorded attacks on colored people in the history books. Trayvon Martin was a colored seventeen year old from Miami and was fatally shot by George Zimmerman. The murder of Trayvon Martin was a big spark in the movement of Black Lives Matter also known as #BLM. The #BlackLivesMatter movement has been spreading all around the world for around 3-4 years and was initially created after the murder of Trayvon Martin by Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi. The killing of Trayvon Martin had near to no reason behind it.
First, it is important to establish what stereotypes are, and how they have a positive or negative impact on others. Stereotypes are common assumptions about a certain group of people, which are used to define them without proof. There is no such thing as a positive stereotype, no matter how good it sounds. Many people consider the stereotype that “All Asian people are good in academics” or “all Caucasian people are the bravest” to be good stereotypes, but in reality, it just sounds good on the surface. These stereotypes are actually damaging to everyone because not all of it is true.

On top of her career, she had respect, and was admired as a great role model by Mexican Americans. Recently in class, we’ve been reading a novel called The Outsiders, which has several topics related to stereotypes in it. While reading, I found that most greasers thought the Socs to be arrogant and spoiled, though that was later proved to be incorrect. Most Socs also thought greasers were very rough and mean, but that too was proven wrong since the very start of this book.
Stereotypes are in the world all around us, in film, TV, literature and in everyday life. “A Stereotype is a conventional, formulaic and oversimplified conception, opinion, image or conforming to a set image or type” (Dictionary.com). Stereotype happens on an everyday basis, similar groups of people are categorized by such factors as race, color, what they wear, and their behavior. Class Stereotypes Stereotypes are seen as overgeneralized ideas, images, or beliefs of a person based on a group of people. Stereotypes can either be taken or said in a negative or positive way but mostly seen in a negative way. Stereotypes are formed on a life experience, idea or a belief a person may have towards one person based on the person’s gender, race, religion or social class. The most common stereotypes are of the social classes which are the: upper, middle and lower class.
Stereotypes are simple images or beliefs over the attributes assigned to a particular social group, are models of behavior that become schemes deeply rooted in our mentalities to the point that we adopt them as part of human naturalness. Stereotypes can be racial, religious, sexual and social. These could be the caused of a known incident or attitude years earlier, or simply the result of frequent rumors. Stereotypes can affect different spheres of society. These assumptions can filter into many aspects of life.
Playing the Part No matter the century or the centuries to come there has and there always will be stereotypes. A stereotype is a fixed notion or image of a certain group of people. Stereotypes put certain characteristics on people or objects. Most stereotypes are racist and sexist; over time stereotypes may change to fit with the evolving society.
In reality, appearance does not define who a person truly is. In To Kill a Mockingbird characters such as Tom Robinson, Mrs. Dubose, and Boo Radely are misunderstood and or misjudged because of their physical appearance. This leads the society to unpleasant judgment such as fear, hate, and injustice. Boo Radely is one of the characters that is misjudged due to his false appearance and reclusive lifestyle. In the novel, Boo Radely is portrayed by other characters as a vicious monster that dines on live animals.
Over the span of hundreds of years these stereotypes have developed and now help define groups of people. A stereotype is not necessarily a true statement or it may not describe every person in a race but due to popular belief it has become this way. Some people tend to believe that stereotypes are correct and they judge races according to them. When a person is asked to describe someone from a specific race, they will most likely state multiple stereotypes that for most are not even true. This becomes the reason for most racial profiling and increases the barrier between people.

People judge others by their skin tone, ethnicity, and physical appearance unconsciously, and this have been proven by many social experiments. Of course, though these stereotypes might be accurate at times, there are situations where they are completely defied.
Stereotypes are overgeneralized beliefs about people based on their membership in one of many social categories. For example traditionally, men have been seen as financial providers, whereas women have been viewed as caretakers.
One thing everyone needs to know is all stereotypes are all based on truths. Truths, pertaining to stereotypes, are how categorized groups used to act in a certain way in the past or how some still act that certain way currently. Truths are basically the honest look of how the group behaves. Currently people get misconceptions and stereotypes confused. Yet misconceptions are formed from stereotypes and are incorrect based on truths.
