As you may know, in Pop Culture, penguins are depicted as rich and fancy birds. But did you know there are a few more stereotypes for these birds? What is the history of Penguins in Pop Culture? Here is information I have gathered so you can know this. First, let’s talk about penguin’s history in Pop Culture. On December 1941, the villain The Penguin was introduced into DC comics. Though not an actual penguin, The Penguin has an army of penguins (other birds too, mainly penguins) that assist in his plans. In 1980, the comic strip Bloom County was brought into newspapers. Later, the strip introduced a very popular character named Opus, who was a penguin. The strip ended in 1989, then came back in 2015. On October 14, 2005, the online video game Club Penguin was created. The game allows players to control a penguin and go on many adventures on an island in the South Pole. Earlier that year, on May 27, the movie Madagascar was released. Joining the characters Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, and King Julien are the three penguins, Skipper, Kowalski, and Rico, who were so popular that they got their own movie on November 26, 2014, and also a TV series that premiered March 2009 on Nickelodeon.
