Ninety percent of popular video games portray violence. Studies have shown, children who are exposed to violent media may become numb to violence. Children with behavior problems and learning disabilities could be influenced by violent images. Do you know a child that spends an excessive amount of time playing video games? If so, it's likely that the child could be addicted. Some signs could be spending more time on the computer than with friends and family, becoming socially isolated, moody or irritable, and neglecting schoolwork. For help there are treatment centers available near you. A story about an 8 year old boy from Louisiana intentionally shot and killed 87 year old women. CNN affiliate WBRZ stated that the women was the boy's grandmother. The Sheriff's department implied the boys activities in a violent virtual world may have led to the killing. Investigators found out that the suspect was playing a video game on the PlayStation 3 called ‘Grand Theft Auto IV’. This game includes violence, sex, drugs etc. . It’s a realistic game that encourages killing people and rewards you for doing so. The boy was playing this video game minute's before the homicide occurred. The video game maker rejected any suggestion its game might have sparked killing. The boy did not face charges because he was under the age of 10.
