In modern society, with the rising demand of high quality entertainment, companies have started to pay more attention to producing diverse programs in order to fulfill people’s desires of satisfaction and novelty. As time goes on, the media has become one of the most pervasive tools to lead and shift the mainstream idea of how to view men and women in the public. Gradually, this tool has shifted the public eye (or attention) towards the ‘ideal beauty’ (media’s perception of ideal beauty). This portrayal of ideal beauty, results in modern women’s self-objectification and impacts their confidence and leadership positions in a negative way. Media is an undeniable factor that not only propels modern women to objectify themselves, but also propels the public to value women as objects. The media offers people ideas that women are more irrational and fragile than men. For example, hundreds of Hollywood movies portray fragile, female characters that are always protected from gallant male protagonists, which sends intangible messages to audiences that women are weak and unwise. The Media’s bias and stereotypes of women discourage women to pursue their leadership positions. (Pozner 2010) Once a passionate female enrolls in a leadership position, the media uses negative words to describe them such as possessive and aggressive. However, when men encounter leadership, the media uses positive words such as ambitious and powerful. The public and the media’s negative portrayal of female leadership cause women to lose their identity and lower their self-esteem.
