Stereotypes are in the world all around us, in film, TV, literature and in everyday life. “A Stereotype is a conventional, formulaic and oversimplified conception, opinion, image or conforming to a set image or type” (Dictionary.com). Stereotype happens on an everyday basis, similar groups of people are categorized by such factors as race, color, what they wear, and their behavior. Stereotype are used to categorized people by such factors as race, color, what they wear and their behavior. Stereotypes chose one aspect of a person or group and link them all together.
A stereotype is a fixed and basic image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. A person who is often stereotyped is expected to live up to society's expectations, or so the stereotype suggests. It can be suffocating for an individual to live through preconceptions because it is not who that person is. These stereotypes cause others to dismiss that individual as a person and the qualities they have. Such stereotypes still exist now and have been impacting many people for a long time.
Stereotypes are simple images or beliefs over the attributes assigned to a particular social group, are models of behavior that become schemes deeply rooted in our mentalities to the point that we adopt them as part of human naturalness. Stereotypes can be racial, religious, sexual and social. These could be the caused of a known incident or attitude years earlier, or simply the result of frequent rumors. Stereotypes can affect different spheres of society. These assumptions can filter into many aspects of life.
Have you ever been stereotyped? In fact, millions of people have been stereotyped since the 15th century. Stereotyping scenarios is sometimes used if necessary, stereotyping is a belief of an animate object, it's very likely to happen around the world, Many stereotypes happen when there is a foreigner in another country. Stereotyping is only a belief and could be changed over time, stereotyping can only happen when you see someone that you think has whatever characteristics. Both stories represent stereotypes, Furthermore, the book “The outsiders” by SE hilton presentation is more convincing than the book “The Friday Everything Changed” by Anne Hart.
In today’s society, individuals and groups are labeled with either positive or negative stereotypes. People encounter stereotypes everyday and everywhere. It is the picture people paint in their minds when approaching a group or individual when in fact it may be different in reality. Stereotypes affect a person’s way of living and thinking either in a negative or positive way. Stereotypes are based on truth but in an exaggerated way, while misconceptions are formed from having stereotypes.
The Disease of Being Colored Colored, nigger, African American, black, coon, and Negro are all the words that describe my race. These are the words that helped mold me into the woman that I am today. Not all of the words that I have listed are in a respectful manner, but they all mean one thing; A black person. Although all of those names can be thrown towards anyone of the African decedent, often times people do not care to see behind the skin of an individual. In hindsight everyone looks alike when the lights are off, and when we are even dead and buried in the ground.
The act of stereotyping is assuming that all members of a group have similar knowledge, behaviors, or beliefs simply because they belong to a group. Using stereotypes is one of the most common reasons why countless people are misjudged. It can occur with the person’s knowledge or it can happen subconsciously. Sometimes, in writing, authors will form stereotypes for their characters to fit into. By using a stereotype, it sets a base for the character to build off of and show change.
Over the past week, I was tasked to choose between one of two articles that all of the incoming freshman at Union County College in preparation for the up and coming school year. This decision will forever change the way the incoming students will do before stereotyping a certain race, religion, or sexual preference. One of the articles I had to choose from was called, “Don’t Let Stereotypes Warp Your Judgments” By Robert L. Heilbroner, while the other one was called, “Black Men and Public Space” by Brent Staples. Both articles were somewhat similar in the fact that they both talk about how the typical person, in most situations, stereotype people in a bad or even a good way. The Single Story In today’s world, everybody has a single story. They affect the way we think about a person or group of people. Society and the media distribute stories of people and convince people to believe or feel the same way about the topic. Single stories cloud the judgement of people.
Stereotype a word that harbours judgements and ideas of how an individual or groups should act depending on factors such as social status, culture, sexual orientation and nationality. It is still used very often in today’s society but most of it consist of ideas that are proved to be false or exaggerated but nonetheless these unrealistic judgements are spread amongst society through propaganda, traditional and social media. In some circumstances, stereotypes can be extreme enough to incite prejudice, disrespect or even racism between people. Three stereotypes that I find to be to be really relevant in today’s society are directed towards the culture of Americans, Asians and Muslims. These stereotypes portray how these populaces act and what their characteristics should be or is.
Stereotypes are the ugly truth, that become exaggerated. A person becomes stereotyped by the way they act and behave a certain way. Stereotypes consist of two people or more which create a group. Everyone is categorized in groups by a stereotype that is associated with them. For instance, at a high school there are the jocks, the preps, the geeks, the poser and et cetera.

One thing everyone needs to know is all stereotypes are all based on truths. Truths, pertaining to stereotypes, are how categorized groups used to act in a certain way in the past or how some still act that certain way currently. Truths are basically the honest look of how the group behaves. Currently people get misconceptions and stereotypes confused. Yet misconceptions are formed from stereotypes and are incorrect based on truths.
Today everyone is obsessed with social media. People are easily influenced by almost everything they come across on the internet including appearance and body image. In todays generation it is so common to be unhappy with the way you look. All this is due to societies high standards on the way we “should” look. With social media you can do many things, including pretending to be someone you are not.
