Professional sports are played by the best athletes in the world at their age and time. In 1839, a man named Amber Doubleday invented the sport of baseball in Cooperstown, New York. Baseball is now known as,”America’s national pastime”. Ever since 1991, the MLB (Major League Baseball) has banned the use of steroids for players to “cheat”. But, they didn’t start testing players for steroids until 2003. Steroids have become really popular in professional sports throughout the past years. Not every professional athlete uses steroids, but the ones who do, are seen as “cheaters”. Steroids should remain illegal in professional sports for the safety of the players, to keep all players equal, and for the health of the players who use them. The athletes who use steroids are normally a lot stronger than players who don’t use them and that can cause a disadvantage towards the players who don’t use them. Steroids are scary, not only for the player using them, but for the athletes going up against them too. Using steroids is a huge risk for your body causing all different problems for your body. Athletes risk their lives using steroids just to be better than other players for a certain amount of time before they are caught. About 30% of professional athletes use or are on steroids and some never get caught. It seems like everyday you hear a new story about an athlete who has tested positive for steroids. But know one thinks about their health and only the fact that they are a cheater. That athlete might live the rest of his life different than others because of his use of steroids. That player might not be able to play the game he loves ever again just because he wanted to be better than everyone
