Racism has been an issue for many years and will continue to occur in the future. In the years of the 1800’s and earlier, slavery existed and blacks were horribly mistreated in America. However, the act of owning another person was abolished in the mid 1800’s; this didn't stop people from harassing, harming, and killing innocent black citizens. By the middle of the 20th century it seemed that the mistreating of black lives needed to be stopped. This lead to the civil rights movement with leaders like Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks, that all risked everything to take a stand.
These are all issues that can’t be fully resolved, however awareness will severely reduce it. Racism has become a very prevalent issue in today’s time. Politicians such as Donald Trump are seen as racist, and some big celebrities who have made racist remarks
Racism is something that needs to stop being taken so lightly. It for one has a toll of impact on many people’s lives. For instance, racial name callings can have many affects on an individual of the opposite race who is being harassed because of the color of their skin. It can truly damage a person’s self love and respect for themselves. Often the ones who make others feel that way are the ones that lack those character traits.
A community cannot progress socially and on equal grounds if a people hate another group of people unjustly. The conflict created by racism not only changes things like personal opinion but also persuades the law, which is supposed to be the fairest place in the United States. From this conflict the communities will never be there for each other, and the only thing that groups together is the lines on a map. There will be no trust between the two groups which will only deepen a systematic disdain for each other. The only thing that will change is that is to change the minds of those who believe these prejudice ways, a monumental cultural shift would need to occur.
Although opponent to racism and the Catholic Church has made huge gains in society, racism is still very prevalent today. Many studies have been done recently which show the strong negativity towards African Americans and Hispanics (Parks). Other reports also show that many Americans feel that there is still a lot more progress to be made against discrimination
I grew up in a small urban town believing that no matter your ethnicity, racist remarks where never appropriate. I moved to into St. Cloud for about 2years ago and found my thoughts and feelings on racism being altered by my experience with people in my neighborhood. I live in an area with a high immigrant population of White, Asian, Vietnamese, and Hispanic families. I also live down the street for a low income housing project that has a high majority of African American families. The Asian and Hispanic populations are very hard working individuals, opening stores, restaurants and businesses.
Systemic Racism in the United States Many individuals today have different point of views on how the United States of America became what it is today. For instance, point of views such as how society learned to function the way it does, the law and order in place, and ultimately, how circumstances have developed throughout history. Unfortunately, institutional/institutionalized racism, also known as systemic racism is also a concept that has settled and is grown to be quite predominant in the United States all through times past. Systemic racism continues to take place in settings such as banks, courts of law, government organizations, school systems, and the like.
As a group we could stop by making a protest against racism. And celebrate you differences instead of what’s the same. This means if someone is a different race try communicating with them not just people who are the same race. If you see a racist vigil or protest then say something about. Let your community know that there is a hatred group and that you should stop it together.
Racism is an evil act that can destroy a society. The U.S is a nation of immigrants and, as such, it is a diverse society where racism has no place. In the past few years police officers in America have been discriminating against the black community. Police officers are meant to protect the public, not cause further damage and stress. They use over excessive force towards black people, target minorities and abuse their power.
Race is an issue. Our culture tries to pretend that it’s not, but our minds can’t help but compare the people with the stereotypes. It’s easy to identify yourself based on your race, but it’s even easier to pre-judge others. Our race has nothing to do with potential, with success or with what a person is capable of. What can we do to fix this injustice is to raise awareness and give people knowledge that we shouldn 't judge people based on their race.
The society that organizes individuals and groups into different races will never be free of racism. It is clear that as long as there are racial categories in a society, there will always racism. Racism stems from within a person, which,
Many people have tried stopping such acts with protest. Various movements have been established to achieve equal rights for everyone and stop racism. Even though the many tries, racism still strives and can still be seen today. Racism is still in America because the media’s affect,
The first step we should take towards demolishing racism is to allow children, starting at the age of 7, to learn more about the impact of racism, specifically by having to watch a program that he/she will watch 24/7 all about anti-racism. By introducing this topic at a very young age, the child’s mind will be able to easily understand and comprehend the day-to-day struggles of those who have faced the troubles of racism and will motivate them to never go down that path. In terms of laws, racism is hardly mentioned, which goes to show, the U.S. needs to enact more laws to help cripple racism. For instance, for every second some orange skinned, wigged, egotistical maniac uses some atrocious, racist, name-calling, rant directed towards an individual, they will have to pay a small loan of a million dollars. Groups such as the NAACP, the Black Alliance For Just Immigration and the Black Lives Matter Movement are all great
Racism: a curse for the society INTRODUCTION:- "Racism is an ideology that gives expression to myths about other racial and ethnic groups that devalues and renders inferior those groups that reflects and is perpetuated by deeply rooted historical, social, cultural and power inequalities in society." Racism is one of the oldest truth around the world .Racism, is said to be as old as the human society. Racism is nothing but only the belief that all members of each race possess the characteristics, abilities, or qualities which are specific to that race, especially, so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races. And this differentiation change the people’s mentality and bring death among themselves.
Put posters or flyers around the town or school, which will be effective and make you want to stop what you are doing and read it. Hopefully this will give people of an idea on the severity of Racism and will want people to take action about the issue. A real life example occurred in the Summer of 1993, Toronto Canada. This was the time they experienced a rise in increasingly violent racism, which was mostly directed at the Tamil immigrants. A large protest was held, with about 3000 people, led by the Tamil community.
