In the story of the hour, theirs many symbols throughout the story that helps understand the character point of view. After Louise finds out about her husband’s accident, she shows of grief of her partner. After realizing her true feelings, most people would think differently of her showing no remorse of her husband. The independence and freedom she now has excites her, makes her feel like a new person. In the story there three main symbols that show meaning and emotion, which helps the reader understand the character point. In, The Story of an Hour, the main character in the story, had heart troubles. Her heart problems symbolize her emotions from her marriage. Once she found out that her husband was announced died she was first hurt then felt overly happy. He heart started beating stronger and she been feeling much better after the news. As she talks about the trees she referring to something new coming into her life. Also the rain, the rain symbolizes the storm that’s passing by and will bring a beautiful day after. Giving her a joyful life now that she is free from her past. As she breathes, sees, and listens from outside the window she realizes that she’s feels like a new person, she’s feel from her marriage she’s not tied down from a man anymore. She has endless opportunities to do with her new found independence now. Right after Louise hears about the death of her husband she sits in the armchair. She is releasing her exhaustion into the chair from the news. This is where she rests her trapped life and social expectation. As she sank in the chair she’s being embraced by the chair, giving warmth and love. She describes the chair to be comfortable and roomy, which symbolizes that now she has room in her life to move around, and feel comfortable.
