Women in the 19th ‘s century seldom have freedom and independence. Reason of they should rely on the money that men brings back to survive. Kate Chopin, the author of “The Story of an Hour” lives in a family which only has her mother left, that her father and brother has passed away when she was young. This has turns her into a different woman that she reflects her own personality into the story on the protagonist Louise Mallard as an intelligent, independent, and emotional woman. She understands the “right” way for woman to behave, who also has a desire of being free in her internal mind; which reacts dramatically to conceal her own thought, that has a huge difference by compare with other woman in that period of time In the story, the author claims that Louise is an intelligent person by stating “she wept at once, with sudden”(line9,Chopin)after hearing the news of their husband’s death rather than feeling numb like other women will be reacting like . Normally in that period of time, woman usually rely on husband for life, when they lose the finance support from their family they will be anxious about their future.
