Outsmarting your enemies is key to defeating them. The third Pig shows this when interacting with the Wolf in the short story, “The Story of the Three Little Pigs”. The first Pig mentioned in the story gets eaten by the Wolf right away, and the second Pig is eaten as well. This is due to their incompetence and lack of useful character traits. The only Pig to not be eaten by the Wolf was the third Pig, for he obtained many traits that aided him in defeating the Wolf and eventually eating him. The third Pig is the most admirable because he possesses the character traits of being resourceful, clever, and intelligent. First, the third little Pig is admirable because he is very resourceful. When the Pig leaves his home to start a new life, he meets a man that has a pile of bricks. He asks the man for the bricks so that he can make a house out of them. When the Pig went to the fair and bought a butter-churn, he saw the Wolf coming to the fair. He hid in the butter churn and made it roll down the hill which scared the Wolf, who did not know the Pig was inside. As the author reveals, “So the little Pig went to off before the time, as usual, and got to the Fair, and bought a butter churn, and was on his way home with it when he saw the Wolf coming. Then he could not tell what to do. So he got into the churn to hide, and in doing so turned it round, and it began to roll, and rolled down the hill with the Pig inside it, which frightened the Wolf so much that he ran home without going to the Fair” (20). Here, the Pig decided to use the butter churn to scare away the Wolf in order to return home safely. He was intelligent enough to think of a quick plan and was able to escape because of it.
