Although pigs are smarter than dogs, they are usually thought of as useful for only livestock. Pigs are smarter than dogs, but if dogs tasted like pork, dogs would not be eaten in modern America. Pigs could make the world better, but citizens and scientists aren't open-minded enough to have pigs be or do something other than be food. Overtime pigs have proven their intelligence and strong-mindedness to prove that they are more than just pork chops. There are many ways that pigs communicate, while some are different than humans. Pigs can use thermostats just like humans. Studies show that people can easily learn to operate levers and switches to adjust temperature to their liking( the Humane Society of the United States). Pigs using a thermostat shows that they are aware of their surroundings and find solutions to their problems. Pigs can also use intelligence for bad, like easily learning how to escape. For example, in 2009, 180 pigs escaped from a factory and two sibling pigs called the Tamworth Two escaped from an abattoir and swam across a river to escape(Taylor). Pigs being able to escape so easily prove their intelligence. Pigs can pick out the difference between things when given multiple of objects or scents. For instance, pigs can pick out spearmint from mint and peppermint and drink the normal drink when given a bitter drink and a normal without even touching the bitter drink(Wright, Gieling).
