In the Straight Outta Compton film, one scene shows the group being interviewed about why they chose to promote violence, weapons, and gangs in their music in which the actor who plays Ice Cube states that their art is a reflection of their reality. By doing this, female rappers create greater marketing success towards their careers by profiting off of a social judgment that already exists regardless of how they convey themselves. The culture industry has substantially shifted the image portrayed of women that diminished their values to just their bodies through male-dominated rap and was replaced by female rap artists whose music celebrated self-confidence and women empowerment (Class Discussion, Week 9). Moving on, economic power can be seen in hip-hop through the act of commercialization which demonstrates the power of hip-hop in that it has spread widely in the music market, yielding a monetary and subsequent social impact.
