Issue: All famalies understand that putting their children into organized sports and activities can be a real strain on the wallet. Kids sport will work to help children and youth in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing prepared sport. For example; Canada is best known as an international hockey powerhouse. However, the value of the sport may be making it less frequent amongst children in this country.

Who started it? Why did it start?
As the cost of registration fees and equipment was raising, so that eventually leading to reduced participation. The Sports BC’s Board of Directors acknowledged that, then they proposed the KidSport concept. The Kid Sport was adopted all over the country in 1993 at the Yearly General Meeting of the Canadian Council of Provincial and Territorial Sports Federations. In 2000, the KidSport program was launched in Ontario by Sports Alliance Ontario, a leading sports development agency in the province.

Who are the current Stakeholders and their perspectives:

Today there are 11 provincial and territorial chapters and more than 175 community KidSport committees working hard to support children across Canada. All are working to help children in need. In Ontario, Kid Sport includes a provincial office and 23 volunteer community chapters. Every community chapter is led by passionate volunteers who have faith in that sport, and its benefits would be every child’s right. All of the episodes work directly with the families that are facing barriers to their child's contribution in organized sport within their catchment.
