In my reading and research I learned that race by examination is socially created and is fiction but racism as a social problem is real. People perceive others according to their race. Race has been a misunderstood concept in this modern world for centuries. Confusion of the title “race” is because it has a biological and social meaning. I learned about a “cross-racial understanding” that should be learned by us all so that racial and ethnical prejudices are reduced. I was unaware that the population of white people in America was 87% beginning the 20th century and recently the consensus surveys tell us that the population is roughly now 75% minorities. Since there are so many different minorities in America it is truly vital that we all have gain some racial awareness.

On a wider scale, we should learn about other cultures worldwide. The “World Day” mentioned in the article, “World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is a great start in becoming united as a nation and not just in America. This was day created to help people gain a sense of racial awareness and encourage people to understand the value of cultural diversity. Essentially, Christ died for all of our sins. Our society would be so different if we focused on becoming more united as a nation instead of separating ourselves by race and ethnical backgrounds. We should be challenging ourselves to learn to love others just as Christ commanded us all to do in John 13:34 he commands us, “Love one another.
