“Kids at Hope” has become a part of the Herndon High School’s framework for all students and the entire staff. Kids at Hope is “a strategic, cultural framework designed to engage entire communities to support success for all children, no exceptions”. It is a cultural framework with strategies based on three leading principles and practices: We Believe, We Connect and We Time Travel. The “We Connect” component of Kids at Hope supports the notion that as long as children have meaningful and sustainable relationship with caring adults they will be successful. Those caring adults are called the ACES.
However, too many students are so self-focused that they cannot unlearn their selfish behaviors for the sake of finding the best-suited solution that can be achieved through collaborative thinking. In addition to Davidson, Jean Twenge also notices this pattern and she labels it as “narcissism”. As Twenge explains, “Because the school programs emphasize being ‘special’ rather than encouraging friendships, we may be training an army of little narcissists instead of raising kids’ self-esteem” (Twenge 504). Twenge obviously believes that school programs are trying too hard to preserve a child’s self-esteem instead of actually helping them to build skills that would help them. Twenge mentions that instead of making them feel “special”, schools should focus more on “encouraging friendships” so that they can be a little less narcissistic and self-focused.

It explains how she overcame a childhood of poverty and instability and became more than just another high school dropout statistic. According to the film during research conducted by Robert Balfanz, one of the nation’s top education researchers, he discovered that if a 6th grade child in a high poverty school is absent more than 20% of the time, or fails a math or English course or receives an unsatisfactory behavior grade in a core course, there is a 75% chance they will drop out of high school unless there is decisive intervention.
During my high school career, I see the step that I have taken has gotten me closer to my dreams and to my goals for the future by taking every chance I can get to maintain my GPA and continuously get better grades. Also, I try to take the some advanced classes at Lincoln Land Community college and high school such as: AP European History, Sociology and Biology 101 which are a college course. In all my

High school was an extreme thrill from the first day of my freshman year. As I stepped off the school bus and entered the building, I knew that Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School would be my home for the next four years. BrewTech was ranked the number five school in the state, so I knew I was among the elite and had big shoes to fill. As I began to stroll the halls to locate my class, I was greeted by smiling faces of students and teachers a like. With minor bumps in the road, I completed my freshman year in high school acquiring friends that I still have today.

The intersection of diverse student backgrounds and active learning needs a comfortable, positive environment in which to take root. Dr. King continues by explaining, “Education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals.” From back then to today’s society, kids are failing because they lack those morals that they need to succeed.

Choosing a college major is one of the most important decisions in a person’s life. The effect choosing a college major has on one’s life is much like a small ripple in the middle of a vast ocean. In the students senior year it is a simple seemingly inconsequential click of a button on an online application. But by the time this once meek ripple reaches the shore of the students’ life it has already transformed into a great tidal wave that has influenced their life every step of the way.
Education is a huge issue that not only affects kids and their parents, but their community as well. Schools teach young kids to become the next generation of engineers, technicians, and political leaders, working towards creating a better future for their country and their community. Teachers have the unique job of creating the future leaders of the world, and preparing them for both college and life beyond, by putting a special push towards math and science, the so-called “foundation” of our society. The hard truth is, no one can be anything they want to be. Some people are simply not cut out to be engineers, doctors, or psychologists.
