Agency Mission Pupil Services is an agency within Los Angeles Unified School District under the Student Health and Human Service Division and their mission statement is the following: “To ensure that all LAUSD students are enrolled, attending, engaged, and on-track to graduate.” The agency firmly believes that within every student is a highly capable and motivated high school graduate. Agency Structure Pupil services partner with a variety of district and non-district agencies such as the City of Los Angeles. The City of Los Angeles pays for 16 PSA counselors, 1 lead counselor, and 1 coordinator position to be co-located at FamilySource Centers which are non-LAUSD agencies.
Competency Goal III Competency Goal III is to support social and emotional development and to provide guidance. There are three main areas to succeed in this, the things are self-concept, sociality, and guidance. One focus on Competency Goal III is self-concept. Children’s environments support the development of positive self-concepts.

Only reading and behavior are identified as needed goal areas leaving out other academic areas, such as math and writing. However, these building goals were refined based on student’s past performance data. Datnow and Park (2014) state student achievement goals are essential to the cycle of continuous improvement and can be specific and measurable but they do not outline the details for classroom instruction and differentiation needed for every student. To help all students achieve, teachers need to systematically and routinely use data to guide instructional decisions and meet students’ learning needs. Some of the teachers in my building do a great job of implementing this cycle and other’s do not.
Setting unrealistic goals, or goals that are possibly too far for any normal teenager to attain can be just as detrimental to a students effort as any other type of negative influence. With that being said the conclusion can be drawn that adults have to take a portion of the burden upon themselves, this accountability will leave students with the idea that they have someone to work through this with instead of having to face it alone (Accountability from teachers will be addressed in the analysis
Competency Standard III To support social and emotional development and to provide positive guidance Functional Area 8: Self I provide an emotionally and physically safe and secure environment where the children can thrive and develop their sense of self. I greet each child by name, smiling and giving them one-on-one attention. I show the children that I respect them by acknowledging their feeling and helping them express those feelings appropriately. We follow a routine, and I discuss and explain when there will be a change or disruption to that schedule.
When I decided to go community college, I knew that I would not be satisfied with only attaining an associate’s degree. It took me ten years to return to school, and I decided that I would make it the best experience of my life. All children should have access to a huge range of activities, that with guidance, it will help them to gain life and work skills that will contribute to their own independence.
Personal Statement Describe several personal and professional goals you would like to achieve in the next five years, including why these goals are important to you. It is easy to get caught up thinking too far into the future and forget about what is important right now. To keep myself grounded in the present and create goals I need to ask myself one simple question; how will I reach “academic success” by the end of the current school year? The answer is simple yet complicated all at the same time. The rest of this current school year has to be all about dedication. The definition of dedication also seems simple, “the quality of being committed to a task or purpose.”
It is my goal to make sure students are not just memorizing facts, but are actually understanding. They should be able to take the lesson and apply it to other areas of their lives. I believe students need to be assessed frequently and routinely. The students need accurate and effective feedback, so they can make any necessary adjustments.
