Growing up in Nigeria where the quality of health care is low, and seeing missionary nurses from the United State and Europe care for the patients in my community has always been a motivation to give back since I was a little kid. The joy on their face, the smiles and the concerns they feel with patients is immeasurable. The best reward a nurse wants is to see a patient get better, pain free and healthy. It takes a genuine person to feel the pain a patient is going through. Nursing isn 't just a job, it’s a calling and a responsibility. To serve people who really need care, whose hope depends on the care a nurse gives. Watching this video, brought another perception of who nurses are. I see nurses are heroes, healer and a comforter. As a student nurse, whose ultimate goal is to help people, and give the best care to patients. Educating the patient on their health issues, helping families get access to vital care and information in the community and hospitals is my role as a nurse. Creating an interconnection between myself and my patients will be my priority. I know it takes trust, and a healing environment for patients to come to trust nurses in their short or long stay in the hospitals and clinics. I will be a nurse who is willing to learn and ask questions when needed. I have been a patient at the hospital, and their incredible healing touch of nurses makes them a healer. Watching the faces of each nurse in the video, the faces of the missionary nurse that gave in my vaccinations and cared for my community in Nigeria and the faces of the nurses that I have come in contact with. They all love and showed selfless care to their patients, and that is the nurse, I am want to become, a nurse who at the end of every shift has a changed lifes in the best way, has given a patient hope, a pain free illness and have made a difference in life.
