Should We Pay for Grades? Proven in a recent study in New York, about 6,000 students that were paid for grades in elementary school did the same or even worse in middle school when they were stopped being paid. Schools make important decisions when deciding whether or not they should pay students for grades. Paying them for grades causes lots of different effects, and not just good ones. Students shouldn’t be paid for grades for multiple reasons. It causes pressure to inflate grades and causes conflicts at home. Also, school are wasting money by paying students for simple responsibilities of life. Plus, paying them will lower their academic performance later in life. Paying students for grades is not a good idea, as it has lots of downsides to it; students will stress out, it wastes school money, and lowers academic performances. To begin with, students should not be paid for good grades since it causes lots of pressure to increase their grades. The site Greatschools.org states, “Students should only be rewarded for true achievements, not for simply showing up at school or taking a test.” This means that students will be constantly earning money for small things at school. Most of work students do for money should be a part of their responsibility. The effect of this is that students will get used to getting paid for everything they do. Then, later in life, they will be disappointed when they are not being constantly paid at their job. Clearly, students shouldn’t be paid for grades since they are wasting school money by being rewarded for simple
