I will begin this by saying that the data presented from the state website is the overall average among sub-groups. While viewing the data among sub-groups, I could not help and wonder just how many students actually tried to completely answer each question to the best of their ability. I choose to begin on the ACT PLAN test (Science Portion) 2014-2015 school year. The science portion questions are based on Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth and Space Science. This test looks at those questions that reflect data representation, research summaries, and conflicting viewpoints. This test is only taken among tenth graders and it will predict just how well they will do on the ACT test. Therefore, I begin looking at the data African-American males and Caucasian males. We had 93% of the entire sophomore class take this test. Out of the 93%, 25% were African-American male students and 65% was Caucasian male students tested. The results from Level III (meets academic content standards) are that 8% of African-Americans and 20% of Caucasian students meet the standards. The second-grade level I looked at was the 11th-grade students who took the ACT test 2014-2015 science portions. My sub-groups for this test were female students who were Caucasian and African- American. The percentage of test takers overall was 97% of the junior class. Black females made up 18% and white females made up 27%. The average scores in science only …show more content…
The reading comprehension is a struggle for the junior class as well. The same three parts of data representation are easy for most to do. The conflicting viewpoints and research summary causes the most issues on attaining a passing score. The other reasoning is that white females will take the science classes more seriously because it will more closely relate to what they plan to major in while in
