If some one experience true suffering can they ever hold on to who they are? Suffering is physically or mentally in pain. In the book Night, while the Jews are in the concentration camp and in the ghettos, they suffered. In the concentration camps, Elie was separated from his family, beaten, running for hours on end, and whipped. During the death marches, “All around me what appeared to be a dance of death” is what he saw while at the grave yard. Elie uses imagery to describe bodies were lying everywhere.
